Long, hot July days may be some way off, but one event to pencil into your schedule now is the Festival of 1000 bikes at Mallory Park.
The Past Masters track session on the 10th July will see Kenny Roberts (senior) take to the track on a works Yamaha OW60 – his first time on a UK race track for more than 28 years. ‘King’ Kenny won’t be alone either, with Graeme Crosby and Mike Grant also making special appearances and another highlight of the weekend will see Agostini and Cooper reliving the glory of the 1971 Race of the Year in which they battled for the honours at Mallory – 40 years ago!
But the really unique thing about the 1000 ‘bikes festival is the access you get – you can mingle in the paddock, meet these heroes and drool over a stunning display of historic race bikes. If you’ve a suitable bike, you can book a place out on track and get to ride Mallory Park yourself (although you won’t actually get to race Roberts or Agostini for the £35 it will cost you!).
With track sessions, live music, fireworks and classic race bikes firing up in the paddock, this is not going to be a quiet weekend in the country – but it will be a blast. For more information go to www.vmcc.net or call 01283 540 557.
