Southern 100 - W. Dunlop & C. Palmer
The Southern Motorcycle Racing Club have confirmed that Guy Martin will be entering the Steam Packet Southern 100 road race event held on the Isle of Man from the 11th to the 14th of July.
These races, run on the lesser known 4.25 mile Billown road circuit, promise a really friendly atmosphere and, with mass start solo, sidecar and classic races on the roads in the south of the island, some really thrilling racing as well. Because the circuit, which starts and ends in Castleton, is relatively short, it’s easy for spectators to follow the race action – from the grandstands at Castleton or various vantage points around the route which incorporates long sweeping bends and tight and twisty sections to make for a challenging course.
The Southern race club also set about attracting visitors to the Isle of Man before and after the TT, with the Blackford Pre-TT Classic races from the 27th to 30th of May and the Manx Telecom Post-TT race in June.
Of course the timing of these events, combined with the location and the good level of support – from both local residents and the Manx government means these races appeal to a roll-call of names you are bound to recognise – Dunlop, Cummins, Farquar, Lougher and Martin all feature heavily in the past winners and lap record-holder lists!
