It was a day for the record books at Silverstone as Althea Racing rider, Carlos Checa, picked up a double race win. The wins signalled the 300th and 301st victories for Ducati in World Superbikes
A perfect weekend of racing for the Spaniard meant that he was able to extend his Championship lead to 62 points over Max Biaggi, who had a tough weekend, finishing 11th and 4th respectively. Yamaha riders, Eugene Laverty and Marco Melandri completed the podium in both races, a very happy Laverty getting the better of his team mate to finish second in each.
Carlos Checa:“It was a wonderful day. I didn’t believe that it would be possible to win here, but we managed to do it twice over! To achieve the 300th win for Ducati is an important result and we are all very happy to have been able to repeat this in race two. I thank everyone involved, my team, Ducati and all the sponsors. I also heard that I have now completed 100 SBK races. I didn’t know this but the important thing is that I still feel young!”
