Honda TT Legends rider, John McGuinness, made his annual pilgrimage to Darley Moor for the ‘Stars at Darley’ race meeting and came away with a couple of positive results.
McGuinness, riding his TT winning Honda Superbike, finished third in both of the 10-lap races, with Buildbase BMW pair, Richard Cooper and Barry Burell, finishing in comfortable first and second places respectively.
In the first race, McGuinness kept pace with the Buildbase riders for the first few laps around the 1.5-mile circuit. However, the second half of the race saw recently crowned National Superstock 1000cc Champion, Cooper and Bishop Auckland rider, Burrell, pull away. With fourth-placed Luke Stapleford some way behind, McGuiness settled for an easy third.
On a fine and dry weekend, the second race turned out to be an almost exact copy of the first – John kept pace for the first few laps but again the BMWs eased away from him to make it another Buildbase one two.
Fellow Honda Legends rider, Keith Amor, claimed a 5th and 7th place finish and our road racing pal, Ian Lougher, finished down in 11th and 12th.
Speaking after the race, a content John said: “It’s always good to come and support Darley Moor, I’ve lost count of how many years I’ve been coming here but the organisers have always been good to me so it was great to have another run round. Obviously, I would have liked to have taken the trophy again but Richard and Barry were just that little bit too good for me today.”
